Where To Go In November
As autumn gets fully underway and the mercury starts the drop, it paves the way for cosy breaks in the British countryside, retreats for food and wine lovers in northern Italy and — for the sunshine seekers among us — the start of the winter sun season, whether you feel like heading to Marrakech or Malibu.
We loved the Wild Meadow room, with its handmade four poster bed draped in whimsical florals, its giant bath — and brioche breakfast buns. Or, if you want your own Cotswolds hideaway for the weekend, book The Old Chapel just down in Lower Slaughter and stock up on goodies from Daylesford Farm in Kingham. For a special dinner, reserve a table at the Michelin-starred Wild Rabbit.

Cotswolds, UK
The Cotswolds shine in every season, but they really come into their own in autumn. By November, the temperatures have dropped enough to justify roaring fires and cosy afternoons in the pub on any weekends away. If you feel like extending that afternoon session, book a room under the eaves at the new Fox at Oddington, part of the Bamford family empire.
Andalucia, Spain
Southern Spain often enjoys beautiful weather well into November, so it’s the perfect time to visit one of our favorite rustic retreats, Finca La Donaira. Set on a 1500-acre organic farm on the top of the Serranía de Ronda in Andalusia, this eco-retreat combines nine lovely rooms with an incredible spa and immersion in nature. Also part equestrian center, there is plenty to keep riders of all standards busy, plus hiking, mountain biking, and daily yoga sessions at the Finca. If you prefer to cozy up, there are food workshops, olive oil tastings — and endless peaceful nooks for curling up with a good book.
How to Get There: 2 hours from Seville or Malaga
Piedmont, Italy
With rolling countryside and snow-capped mountains on the horizon, UNESCO-protected Piedmont is Italy’s unsung hero to explore this November. As well as a bucolic vibe, it’s dotted with Michelin-starred restaurants and is the heart of truffle land, which is a riot of ambers and reds come autumn. It also has a chic new gastro-hotel, Nordelaia, set in an 800-year-old farmhouse near the hilltop town of Cremolino — it even has a heated outdoor pool, so you might even fit in a few misty morning swims. Make time to visit nearby Alba and the triple Michelin-starred Piazza Duomo, whose pink frescoed walls are as pretty as the food is excellent.
How to Get There: 1 hour from Turin or 2 hours from Milan
Vienna, Austria
Vienna is starting to shrug off its classical reputation and showcase a more dynamic, playful side that is helping to put it firmly on the city break map. Bed down in the city’s fashionable ‘Boboville’ district at the Altstadt Vienna, a handsome house with individually designed rooms and an art collection of more than 400 paintings, photographs, and sculptures — including a Picasso. From the hotel, you can explore Vienna on foot, making sure to stop in at the Museum of Art History and St Stephan’s Cathedral in the old city. If you fancy a jaunt, the family-run Meinklang winery is just an hour away near the Hungarian border. Back in the city, check out tiny Japanese joint Mochi for dinner and Moby Dick bar for drinks.

Alentejo, Portugal
The Alentejo is the Portuguese region that those in the know are flocking to is idyllic in the shoulder months. Early in November, you’ll catch the olive harvest — and can even join in with the picking if you stay at São Lorenço do Barrocal, the most stylish hotel in the Alentejo. Surrounded by the Monsaraz mountains, olive groves, vineyards, and orchards, the estate has been in the same family for more than 200 years and their hospitality is what sets it apart. There are beautiful walks, horse riding, and castles to explore — or you could just opt to be pampered in the Susanne Kaufmann Spa.
How to Get There: 2 hours from Lisbon
Marrakech, Morocco
Swelteringly hot during the summer months, Marrakech cools to mid-Twenties Celsius in November, making it a very enticing option for a sun-drenched break. Stay inside the Medina at Charlotte Rey’s favorite bolthole, Riad Mena, which has been impeccably curated by owner Philomena Schurer Merckoll; or for a more peaceful vibe, book in at Jnane Tamsna. Twenty minutes outside the city, it has assorted pools for dipping, a menu inspired by its own garden, and our favorite room, the five-bedroom Jnane Villa, is ideal for big groups. While in town, make sure to stop in at El Fenn’s colorful rooftop for sunset cocktails and Riad Dar Simons for a special dinner.
How to Fly There: 20 minutes from Marrakech
Tel Aviv, Israel
November is the perfect time for a Tel Aviv city break where you want to explore beyond the beach scene. Stay in the super cool neighborhood of Jaffa — where Soho House opened an outpost in 2021 — at the Jaffa Hotel, a former 19th-century monastery with its sleek design by John Pawson. You are perfectly positioned to go antiquing at Jaffa Flea Market or to head into the center of town to explore its wide boulevards, Bauhaus architecture, and buzzing food and fashion scene.
How to Get There: Fly to Tel Aviv Airport
Malibu Mountains, US
Los Angeles is the sunshine capital all year around and November is no exception. This trip, try something a little different and delve a little deeper into a side of Malibu you might not be familiar with: its mountains. Stay in the clouds at the new dream holiday rental, Agave House, your very own retreat where you can unwind in the most spectacular environment. There are vast baths for reflective soakings, breezy hammocks, and mesmerizing views at every turn. The best part? You’re only a 20-minute drive from the ocean if you do feel like a change of scenery — but we’re willing to bet you won’t.
