The Cambrian
The Cambrian is a one-off hotel and is the beating heart of Adelboden, having led the village's emergence as a must visit gem 'at the top of the valley'. The hotel offers a fusion of Swiss service and Welsh wit as the two brothers who own this fiercely independent hotel are Welsh ski fanatics who have a penchant for the Alpine lifestyle. Put simply The Cambrian is a haven for good times and memorable experiences.
hotel Guide
Facilities
- The Cambrian's 72 rooms and suites have been re-appointed over recent seasons and offer enchanting interiors and Dutch craftsmanship. All deluxe rooms are unique with different layouts, offering a fresh, light, and contemporary ambiance with king-size beds and walk-in showers. A cosy living atmosphere prevails in the variously sized suites with separate sleeping and living areas and private balconies. All rooms and suites on the South side offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Wildstrubel mountain range.
Staff
- The staff are exceptional (first name terms when appropriate!) as they know exactly when to show up and when to disappear — they really get it.
Wine & Dine
- The hotel's restaurant has been inspired by The Cambrian's Welsh heritage, with Consulting Chef Bryn Williams overseeing the creative process at his eponymous restaurant. Bryn has cooked in some of London's most prestigious restaurants. 'Bryn Williams at The Cambrian' combines influences from Wales and London using seasonal local produce. Bryn's ambitious team aim is to surprise and delight The Cambrian’s guests — those who love to be inspired by new concepts alongside re-visioned classics.
- The Axe Bar & Grill is an informal and relaxed alternative to the Cambrian's main restaurant that offers wholesome grilled dishes, a well-stocked bar and a place to read and reflect, from midday to midnight each day.
- The Axe Bar is connected to the communal areas so feel free to sip a drink around the open fire or enjoy a sundowner in the floor-to-ceiling glazed Winter Garden. And during the Summer months the bar and grill spills out onto the majestic terrace with the additional offering of a poolside champagne cart.
Wellness & Spa
- Relax in the Cambrian Spa, the world famous outdoor infinity pool that commands unrivalled views. But in addition there's an indoor pool, a Finnish sauna, a steam bath, rain showers, relaxing areas and a fully equipped gym. All this plus five treatment rooms offering a great range of treatments by amazing spa therapists using highly revered Susanne Kaufmann products.
- A new addition is a series of carefully curated wellness sessions filled with body, mind & soul activities; yoga, candle-lit meditation, pranayama and fasting retreats are offered alongside stress management training with experienced and empathic guides.

Local Guide
Location & Setting
- Unlike its higher profile neighbours such as Gstaad, Grindelwald and Wengen the village of Adelboden is the 'real deal' bearing 100% Swiss authenticity. In many ways Adelboden can be framed as a humble agricultural hub that has happily and organically evolved into a ski resort and a base for the best cycling and mountaineering adventures that the Swiss Alps have to offer. The town lies in the west of the Bernese Oberland, at the top end of Entschlige Valley — one road up, and the same one down. From Bern, it’s a 45 minute journey, while Zürich is a 2 hour journey and Geneva is 2.30 hours away
Activities
- You’ll find excellent pistes in winter for skiing and snowboarding, superb hiking trails and cycling routes to explore summer-long (some also accessible in winter), mountain streams and rivers for bracing dips, and memorable local experiences of the modest, heartening kind.
When to Go
- The hotel is open all year round.
Annual Events
- At the start of every January, Adelboden becomes the capital of the international Skiing World Cup. The challening course on the Chuenisbärgli is legendary and steep. The best skiers in the world will wind their way skilfully through more than 60 gates, overcoming inclines of between 10% and 60%.
How to Get There
- The hotel is about 45 minutes from Bern and two hours from both Zurich and Geneva.
- The nearest train station is Spiez, 30 minutes by car.
