Stubn
The most charming thing about Stubn, which is surrounded by the rolling hills of Bavaria near Chiemsee, is that you have to hike or bike to it. Private cars are not allowed on the forest road that leads up to its home, the Frasdorfer Hütte, which dates back to 1937 and sits on a high plateau at 950 meters in the Chiemgau Alps.

Good to Know
- You could stop mid-hike for a refreshing drink or a well-deserved lunch break, we recommend rolling up the creaky wooden stairs for a good night’s sleep in one of its 11 simple but design-conscious bedrooms. You will be rewarded with a hearty breakfast of homemade brioche, mountain cheeses, and granolas—and conversation with your fellow guests, which is very much encouraged by the young owner.
Wine & Dine
- An Alpine restaurant with rooms reimagined for a discerning, creatively-minded traveler, Stubn is the brainchild of restaurateur Ludwig Cramer-Klett, whose family has owned the land for generations. He is also the man behind Berlin’s much-loved Katz Orange and Oh, Panama restaurants, who brought in star chef Maximilian Müller to helm the kitchen. The result is a lovingly-created menu where you can choose between three-, four-, and five-course menus that change weekly and are guided by the rhythms of its land and its local producers. Expect dishes such as lake-caught salmon trout with kohlrabi and mustard and fennel with cream and elderberry blossoms foraged from nearby.
Dresscode
- Don't forget your hiking shoes.
